Breakfast of Champions Part 1

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  At least that is what we are often told.  So, why do people indulge in food that will start their day off on the wrong foot?  Donuts, danishes, eggs & bacon, bagels lathered with cream cheese, and many other things clog the arteries and set us up for a sugar coma later in the day.

Oatmeal gets a bad rap - primarily because people don't use creativity when making it.  Make it beautiful, make it tasty, make it a work of art! Here's one way I cook my morning bowl of oats.

Combine 3/4 cup oatmeal with 1 1/2 cups of water and zap the concoction in the microwave for about 60 seconds.  After the first minute, stir and cook an additional minute.

The mixture should be a itsy bit runny but not too runny and definitely not stiff.  We have lots of stuff to add to it!

Add the following: 1/4 cup fresh blueberries, 1/4 cup craisans, 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed, 1/4 cup walnuts and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Or, 1/3 cup chopped apple, 1/4 chopped walnuts (or almonds), 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed, and sprinkle with cinnamon.

How you make this is really up to you and your imagination is your only limit.  Here are some other things to add.  Mix and match until your hearts content!

Apples, almonds, bananas, blueberries, peaches, nutmeg, almond milk, vanilla, coconut milk, craisans, raisans, ground flax seeds, sunflower seeds, nut butter, pears, pecans, cinnamon, apple juice, the sky is the limit!
